谚语、俗语、成语、格言、名言、警句、老话……到底是不是一家人？

学英语久了，我们迟早会碰见这样一大群东西：

A friend in need is a friend indeed.
Better late than never.
Time will tell.
spill the beans
break the ice
Knowledge is power.

有人叫它们 proverb，有人说 saying；再往前走，又碰上 idiom、maxim、aphorism、adage、quotation、quote、old saying。

中文也一样热闹：

谚语、俗语、成语、格言、名言、警句、老话……

平时好像都懂。真要逐个查户口，马上就不那么简单了。

所以这个专栏先做一件事：认个大概，不急着画死边界。

proverb 往往是一句完整、简短、反复流传的话，里面压着某种共同经验、提醒或判断。
